What is CBD and how does it work?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring ingredient found in hemp, one of the oldest crops harvested by cultures around the world. For hundreds of years, people have relied on hemp — specifically CBD — for its many beneficial properties. However, unlike THC (the chemical responsible for the psychological effects), CBD is non-psychoactive.

CBD works by interacting with your endocannabinoid system (ECS), a widespread network of receptors in the body that play an important role in the functioning of the nervous system and stress response. Researchers have found that the ECS naturally balances many functions in the body, including sleep, energy, temperature and mood.

What CBD is right for me, and how much should I take?

We’re all unique individuals with a varying degree of tolerance to specific ingredients. So the right amount for you may be different than what works for others.

If you’ve never used CBD products before, we recommend you start with a very small amount. A dime sized amount of Activate, which is roughly 2 mL, contains about 10 mg of CBD. Keep in mind, the effects of CBD can be subtle. That’s why it’s important to use a CBD product created tailored to your needs. For example, use a tincture or ingestible form of CBD for whole-body relaxation and better sleep, and a topical form such as lotion, oil, or balm for targeting specific areas for soreness and stiffness.
